Washington County Health Department Closed Monday, Sept. 30

Due to ongoing recovery efforts following hurricane Helene, Washington County Health Department will remain closed Monday, Sept. 30.

NCHD Locations Closed Sept. 26 & 27 Due to Severe Weather

All North Central Health District locations will be closed Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27, due to predicted severe weather from hurricane Helene.

Impacts to central Georgia are expected to begin Thursday, September 26. Predicted local impacts inlcude strong winds greater than 35 mph and heavy rains. Locations under a Tropical Storm Warning should expect sustained winds of 30-40 mph with gusts of 50-60 mph possible anytime between Thursday morning and evening. 

NCHD encourages all residents to prepare for hurricanes:

• Have a communication plan in place – include one contact that will not be in the storm.
• Have supplies for each family member – find a checklist at NCHD52.org/prepare.
• Have a way to receive emergency updates – listen to local media and officials, register for your county EMA’s alert system, use a NOAA radio or install a phone app that provides updates.
• Secure all outdoor items that may be blown away by severe winds.
• Evacuate if directed by authorities – follow instructions to ensure safety.
• Prepare to shelter in place if directed – find a safe room in your home away from windows and doors; make sure to bring you emergency supplies.

NCHD services are expected to resume Monday, Sept. 30.
