Volunteer for Your Community

The Central Georgia Medical Reserve Corps (CGMRC) was founded to enhance the emergency capabilities of Central Georgia through the advanced registration, organization, and training of volunteer health professionals. The mission of the CGMRC is to assist and supplement Central Georgia communities with health care volunteers in response to situations that overwhelm available resources. The CGMRC covers all 13 counties of NCHD.

The Medical Reserve Corps Program, housed within the Readiness Division, Office of Emergency Management and Medical Operations, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), was launched in 2002, and now has over 800 local units throughout the United States and the Pacific.

The Medical Reserve Corps is a national network of volunteers who help make their communities stronger and healthier during disasters and everyday conditions. Volunteers are organized into community-based units that work to improve local emergency response capabilities, reduce potential public health risks and vulnerabilities, and build community preparedness and resilience. They prepare for and respond to natural disasters, such as wildfires, hurricanes, blizzards, and floods, as well as other emergencies impacting public health, such as disease outbreaks. MRC volunteers also regularly conribue to community preparedness – engaging in activities like CPR/AED training and assisting with community vaccination clinics.

CGMRC and Functional and Access Needs

CGMRC’s medical focus is particularly concerned for individuals with functional or access needs because these individuals often require additional planning for emergencies. To assist individuals with planning, CGMRC has developed a presentation specifically designed to teach participants how to create an emergency plan to fit their medical needs. The course, Emergency Preparedness for Functional and Access Needs Populations, is around an hour long, but can be adjusted as needed. To request a presentation for your organization, use the presentation request form.
