The adoption of healthy policies has been honored by the ADA.

North Central Health District (NCHD) has achieved the Health Champion designation from the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The title recognizes companies and organizations that encourage and inspire well-being and healthy living within the workforce. The designation is part of the ADA’s Wellness Lives HereTM initiative, which is designed to inspire and fuel our nation’s healthful habits at work and beyond.

“NCHD is honored that our commitment to making our employees’ well-being a priority has been recognized by the ADA,” said District Epidemiologist and Worksite Wellness Chairperson Amber Erickson. “Our goal is to encourage healthy habits and positive lifestyle changes which can benefit all members of the NCHD staff and their families and can lead to increased morale.”

To become a Health Champion, the organization or company must first meet three areas of healthy living criteria: Nutrition and Weight Management, Physical Activity and Organizational Well-Being. NCHD has met the designation’s criteria through various health and wellness initiatives including the establishment of the Worksite Wellness Committee, offering employees daily exercise breaks and adopting a smoke-free policy.
