SHARE

North Central Health District’s Supporting Health Initiatives and Nurturing Equity (SHINE) Team invites all community members to their Health in the Heights Quick Build Event on Saturday, April 27, from 11-2 p.m., at 123 E. Coombs Avenue S.E. in Milledgeville.

This project is part of the CDC’s Active People, Healthy NationSM initiative, which sets out to help promote physical activity for individuals and communities. The event is designed to visually showcase improvements of land use and street safety in neighborhoods, and will include bike lanes, crosswalks, and road signage to promote convenience and accessibility to the public.

During this event there will be Zumba, a bike lane demonstration, play-stations for children, raffles, blood pressure screenings, vaccinations and more free health resources available for all who attend.

This event is offered with the help from our community partners and vendors:

  • Baldwin County Board of Commissioners
  • Baldwin County Family Connections
  • BodyPlex Milledgeville
  • NCHD SNAP-Ed and WIC Programs
  • CORE
  • United Way of Central Georgia
  • GCSU Office of Community Engagement and Service
  • Center for Health and Social Issues (CHSI) at Georgia College & State University
  • CREATE, Inc.
  • Georgia Safe Routes to School

“I’m excited for the Health in the Heights event, because the community will have the opportunity to attend an event that allows them to see the upcoming changes in Oconee Heights. I encourage the public to come out, mix and mingle, participate in Zumba hosted by BodyPlex, and get a feel of the pedestrian crosswalk and bicycle lane.” said Morgan Scott, Active Living Coordinator for the SHINE Program.
