North Central Health District Partners with Pharmacy to Promote Testing
As part of a concerted effort to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and promote early detection, National HIV Testing Day is recognized on June 27 each year. This annual event serves as a vital reminder of the importance of knowing one’s HIV status and encourages everyone across all communities to take proactive steps to protect their health.
National HIV Testing Day highlights the significance of regular testing, as early detection can lead to timely medical intervention and improved health outcomes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 1.2 million people in the United States are living with HIV, and one in seven individuals are unaware of their infection. This year’s theme, “Level up your self-love: check your status,” emphasizes valuing oneself, promotes self-respect and addressing your health needs.
This year, North Central Health District (NCHD) is partnering with Walgreens to provide free HIV testing at the following three pharmacy locations on June 27, from noon to 6 p.m.:
- 3888 Vineville Ave., Macon, GA 31204
- 4305 Mercer University Dr., Macon, GA 31206
- 6035 Zebulon Rd., Macon, GA 31210
“We encourage everyone, no matter their background, to take advantage of testing,” said Amber Singleton, NCHD Communicable Disease Health Educator. “Knowing your status is the first step towards managing HIV and accessing care and support services.”
For anyone unable to visit the testing sites, all 13 NCHD county health departments offer HIV testing as a regular clinical service. To find the location most convenient for your needs, visit NCHD52.org/Locations.
