Macon-Bibb County Health Department to Host Vision Clinic May 3

Macon-Bibb County Health Department will host a Vision Clinic in partnership with Prevent Blindness of Georgia on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.

Dr. Stephen Summerow will be on hand offering full vision exams and retinal exams. To be eligible for a full exam, you must be:

• Age 18 or older
• Uninsured

The health department will still serve those who are insured. If your insurance covers eye exams, we encourage you to bring your prescription to the vision clinic to receive low-cost eyeglasses. 

Macon-Bibb County Health Department is looking to help those who need an eye exam, eyeglasses, and those at risk of glaucoma and/or diabetes.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 3 million people aged 40 or older in the United States has vision impairment and 1 million are blind. More than 8 million people have vision impairment caused by an uncorrected refractive error, such as nearsightedness or astigmatism. Early diagnosis and timely treatment can often correct vision impairment and slow the progression of some conditions.

The vision clinic will be on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Macon-Bibb Health Department located at 1600 Forsyth Street in Macon. Appointments will be required if you are uninsured. Please contact Joy Harris at 478-749-0139 to make an appointment. If you are insured and interested in low-cost eyeglasses, walk-ins will be accepted.
