Pop-Up Market Bringing Fresh, Local Food to Southern Baldwin County

Milledgeville’s Milly Market and North Central Health District’s Supporting Health Initiatives and Nurturing Equity (SHINE) Program invites residents of Baldwin County and surrounding communities to shop fresh, locally grown produce and handmade goods at their Pop-Up Market on Friday, July 31, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The event will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church, 204 Harrisburg Road SW in Milledgeville

The Pop-Up Market is part of SHINE and the Milly Market’s shared mission to connect local farmers with families while improving access to nutritious, affordable food. While the Milly Market is typically held on the first and third Fridays of each month from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Milledgeville from April to October, this special event will bring fresh, local food options closer to residents in Southern Baldwin County. Attendees can shop for a variety of seasonal produce, including vine-ripened tomatoes, cucumbers, garden squash, peppers, sweet onions, and garlic, along with homemade bread, pastries, and popsicles.

The Pop-Up Market welcomes all shoppers and accepts cash, debit cards, credit cards, and SNAP/EBT benefits. Through the market’s Fresh for Less “Double Bucks” program sponsored by Wholesome Wave Georgia, customers using SNAP/EBT can double their produce dollars, allowing them to purchase even more fresh fruits and vegetables. Shoppers participating in the program will also have the opportunity to receive a special gift at the upcoming market while supplies last.

“This Pop-Up Market is about making healthy food more accessible and supporting our local farmers. We encourage everyone to stop by, shop local, and learn about the Fresh for Less Program that help families bring more fresh fruits and vegetables home.” said Mankesia Solomon, Nutrition Coordinator for the SHINE Program.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and experience the benefits of shopping locally while taking advantage of fresh seasonal offerings and SNAP/EBT incentives.
