Macon-Bibb County Health Department to Offer Weekly Breast Exams Every Tuesday in October

Macon-Bibb County Health Department will offer 15-minute breast exams every Tuesday in the month of October.
These clinical exams are meant to be quick, convenient, informative, and raise breast cancer awareness and the importance of early detection.
A clinical breast exam consists of examination of both breast and underneath the arms to check for any abnormalities in the breasts. It is recommended women should receive a clinical breast exam once a year.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, about 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer during her life, which is why regular breast examinations are so important, especially for women 40 and older.

- Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States.
- About 9% of all new cases of breast cancer in the United States are found in women younger than 45 years of age.
- Black women die from breast cancer at a higher rate than White women.
