Services Closed Jan. 4 Through 8, Business Hours Resume Jan. 11
Baldwin County Health Department’s new building, located at 100 Ireland Dr. in Milledgeville, has been completed and is now ready for staff and services to move into the facility. The move will take place the week of Jan. 4 through 8, with services resuming at the new building Monday, Jan. 11.
During the move to the new building, health department services, including COVID-19 testing, will be suspended. Those in need of COVID-19 testing through public health can still call the North Central Health District testing line at 1-844-987-0099 to schedule appointments at other county testing sites.
The new facility at 100 Ireland Dr., built on land from the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, is a $2.7 million project was funded by health department reserves and $200,000 in Baldwin County SPLOST funds. Construction began February 2020 and was completed Dec. 18, 2020. The building was designed specifically to be a medical facility and will provide an improved public health space for Baldwin County.
“Our staff is very excited to move into our new workplace,” said Carey Dyer, RN, Baldwin County Health Department Nurse Manager. “Moving from our current location to the new one, we’ll have more space, better client flow and overall updated spaces to provide our services to the community.”
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic impacting Georgia and Baldwin County, the health department will move right into public health operations without any additional ceremony for the new building.
“We may not be hosting a grand opening, but we want the community to come see us to receive quality, accessible health services,” said Dyer.
While the building is complete, future plans for the new facility include a community garden on the site to promote healthy eating and outdoor activities.
The staff of Baldwin County Health Department and North Central Health District would like to thank the Baldwin County Commissioners for endorsing this project and for the county’s contribution to this project.
Baldwin County Health Department will continue to provide public health services from Baldwin County Health Department at its current location, 953 Barrows Ferry Rd., NE, until Jan. 4.
