Macon-Bibb County Teen Health Center Helps Students With Decision Making Through Teen Maze

Macon-Bibb County Health Department’s Teen Health Center is offering students a safe environment to experience decisions they may encounter in their lives by hosting its first Teen Maze. Attendees will get to experience a variety of interactive scenarios Saturday, March 17, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Central Georgia Technical College Titans Arena at 1780 Anthony Rd. in Macon.

“Teens face a range of choices as they go through school, some of which could drastically impact the rest of their lives,” said Macon-Bibb County Teen Health Educator Courtney Cravens. “We want to help them learn how to make smart decisions and raise teens’ knowledge of personal responsibility. Once they experience the Teen Maze, they will be better equipped to make positive life choices.”

The Teen Maze is a community-wide event that gives students the opportunity to experience the consequences of life-changing behavior in a safe environment. Once teens enter the maze, their goal is to navigate through life’s tough situations and reach graduation. Each decision will affect teens’ paths through the maze and each person will have a different experience. As they make their way through life’s obstacles, participants will learn to think before making decisions that will change their futures.

Once teens enter the maze, they will encounter a range of situations they may experience in their own lives. Students will learn about the consequences and responsibilities involving

• dating and healthy relationships
• pregnancy and parenthood
• distracted and drunk driving
• drug use and abuse,
• sexually transmitted diseases, safe sex, abstinence and more.

“These are issues that teens in our community can encounter daily,” said Macon-Bibb Health Department Health Educator Stephanie Hyman. “The Teen Maze gives them the opportunity to experiment, make mistakes and see how a bad decision can change their plans for the future. We want them to experience the consequences here rather than in their actual lives.”

Parents, media and other community members are invited to see a preview of the Teen Maze at the pre-event Open House Friday, March 16, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Titans Arena.
