SHINE Invites Hancock Community to School Readiness Event

North Central Health District’s Supporting Health Initiatives and Nurturing Equity (SHINE) Team, Hancock County Health Department, and the City of Sparta invite all families in the community to the Sparta-Hancock Day School Readiness Event on Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hancock County Health Department on 516 Boland St. in Sparta, GA.

Families attending the School Readiness Event will be able to get their children up to date on immunizations for school, get a free copy of their immunization record, and receive dental, vision, and scoliosis screenings. While there, parents will also be able to catch up and stay up on their own routine vaccines.

In addition to providing health services to prepare students for the next school year, there will be over 20 community partners and vendors from Hancock County providing free school supplies, healthcare products, and resources. The Fire Department and Governor’s Office of Highway Safety will be giving fire and road safety demonstrations, Hancock County Family Connections will be giving away free med safety boxes, and the health department will be offering free bloodwork and hygiene kits.

Along with the wide range of school supplies and health resources at the expo, there will be free food, free haircuts, free books, and more activities for kids to enjoy while supplies last. There will also be live entertainment from Missy E Partydoll and DJ Earthquake.

“We’re excited to see everyone come out for Sparta-Hancock County Day.” said Alicia Wright, Program Manager for the SHINE Program. “We want to make sure we give all of the students and parents of Hancock County the opportunity to catch up and stay up on their routine vaccines and give them everything that they need to have a healthy and happy start to their school year.”
