NCHD Works with Greater Than AIDS to Host HIV/AIDS Information and Outreach Session

On Feb. 7, National Black HIV/AIDS Day, NCHD will be teaming up with Greater Than AIDS to host an information and outreach session to help combat the disease here in Macon.

“If a single person in the community is HIV positive, then the community as a whole is affected,” said Greater Than AIDS Peer Educator Joshua Stovall. “We’re hoping to reach out to the community and better assist with prevention, care and program retention. This event will be a safe space for people to build a community and get education about prevention.”

The event is scheduled for Feb. 7 and will last from 7 pm to 9 pm at Lil’ Benny’s Smokehouse located at 881 Wimbish Road in Macon.

NCHD has worked to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS throughout the community by offering a variety of services. County health departments provide testing for HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) along with tools and education for reducing an individual’s risk of infection. In addition, NCHD’s Ryan White-funded HOPE Center helps those living with HIV/AIDS through peer counseling, medical services and referrals to third-party services for additional client needs.
