Learning and Growing
The Adolescent Health and Youth Development (AHYD) Program addresses health and youth development issues for at-risk youth, ages 10-19, in various counties in the District. A comprehensive youth development system educates and empowers teenagers with information and skills to make intelligent decisions in the areas of:
- Teen sexuality
- Obesity
- Alcohol and substance abuse
- Tobacco use
Collaboration
In an effort to maximize resources and services, AHYD’ Youth Development Coordinator facilitates communication and collaboration:
- Government agencies
- Faith-based
- Schools (middle, high and college)
- Private and civic groups
AHYD provides support to these youth-serving organizations in the form of
- Program/event design and restructuring
- Professional development
- Parent empowerment sessions
- Resources (brochures, teen incentives, etc.)
- Financial support
- Marketing and recruitment
- Referral services
