New Agreement Allows Clients Additional Payment Option

North Central Health District (NCHD) and the 13 county health department within the district will now accept Blue Cross Blue Shield for all clinical services.

“Our clients with Blue Cross Blue Shield have been able to receive immunizations services from us for a while,” said NCHD Clinical Nursing Director Anita Barkin. “We’re happy that our Blue Cross Blue Shield clients can take advantage of all our services using their insurance. The addition of Blue Cross Blue Shield to our list of accepted insurance providers is part of our continuous improvement to clients’ experience with all NCHD health departments.”

Prior to this new agreement, Blue Cross Blue Shield was only accepted by the health departments for immunization services. With this change, Blue Cross Blue Shield-insured clients can use their insurance to help cover any clinical service offered by the county health departments. Clinical services include:

  • Family planning and birth control
  • Health checks
  • Hypertension and diabetes services
  • STD/HIV tests
  • Cervical cancer screenings

In addition to Blue Cross Blue Shield, all NCHD health departments accept most major insurances for clinical services. Uninsured and underinsured clients will be charged on a sliding scale based on household income.
