The North Central Health District and Macon-Bibb County Health Department are aware of an article published on October 16, 2015 by TMZtoday.com and reportquickly.com claiming a nurse from the Macon-Bibb County Health Department has exposed several hundred people to HIV and Hepatitis by failing to change needles prior to administering flu shots.

Macon-Bibb Health Department Administrator, Nancy White, stated, “The Macon-Bibb County Health Department nurses administer flu vaccine with pre-filled, disposable syringes, so the fictitious scenario suggested is not feasible.  The misfortune of such an irresponsible hoax is that it could deter people from taking the most important precaution for preventing the flu, and that is getting an annual vaccination.  All of us in public health take immense pride in protecting our clients and our community with the highest standards of care and universal precautions.”

Dr. David Harvey, District Health Director, said, “We at the North Central Health District seriously regret that harmful and erroneous statements have been published on several websites regarding vaccine injections. The accusations are completely unfounded. Our nurses at the Macon-Bibb County Health Department as in all of our district health departments practice under the highest of professional standards.”

The North Central Health District and Macon-Bibb County Health Department are working vigorously to have the article removed from the website.
